This is always an interesting way to open a film.

It’s similar to the opening of Michael Clayton (2007). I asked an editor in LA when Michael Clayton opened: “Why show the ending of the film a few minutes into the cut?” He told me that was a way of pumping a film when the producers felt the script wasn’t working. They used the ending as a way of keeping the audience’s interest. Working backwards.

I screened Catch-22 (1970) a couple days ago; it opens with the end of of the film.

An LA screenwriter told me that once you’ve finished the first thirty pages; the rest was easy. I assumed that she meant: throw in thirty pages of filler and write a catchy ending. The films that I’ve walked out on, all relied on filler to bridge Act I to Act 3. Factory production methods.

The History of Cinema didn’t begin with Star Wars. Maybe that’s the problem?

The system in Italy was created to make sure that there was a weak government and a very complicated policymaking process — this is the heritage of the fascist regime,” said Wolfango Piccoli, an analyst at Teneo Intelligence in London. “I am not sure it will be any different this time.”

“Every day we try to make a better guitar, every day. You’re trying to reach for more, trying to do better, not trying to do the same. A lot of companies are trying to do the same, and that’s okay – that’s their deal. We’re trying to stretch that. Our goal is a little more.”
